Three adults who lived in the home are receiving temporary assistance from the Red Cross. The fire appears to have started in the kitchen.

Firefighters from the responded to a two-alarm residential fire Thursday morning in the 1400 block of Carriage Crossing Lane in Chesterfield.

Firefighters received the emergency call at approximately 8:30 a.m. Fire Marshal Roger Herin said the property was a total loss as a result of the fire. The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen near the dishwasher.

Herin said no one was home at the time of the fire and there were no civilian injuries.

The Red Cross was at the scene of the fire providing water and snacks to emergency responders as they worked under the heat. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for observation due to exhaustion.

Denise Nazzaro, communication specialist of the Red Cross, was at the scene of the fire. Nazzaro said the Red Cross was also providing three adults who lived in the destroyed house with a place to stay, food and clothing.

Traffic was temporarily closed at Carriage Crossing Lane while firefighters put out the fire. It took firefighters one hour and 24 minutes to declare it completely under control, Herin said.
