Police Call For 'Night Out Against Crime' Oct. 4

Chesterfield's Police Chief Ray Johnson is calling for residents to join America's Night Out Against Crime on Oct. 4.

It's a Tuesday night—a school night—yet from 6:30-9 p.m. residents throughout Chesterfield are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and members of the police department.

Many neighborhoods throughout Chesterfield will host special events, police said, such as block parties, cookouts, parades and youth activities.

Towns nationwide have pledged to join the Annual National Night Out in a show of force against criminal activity. National Night Out is considered a crime and drug prevention action.

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

It's sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and the Chesterfield Police Department.

Chesterfield police said they will be out in full force, visiting the neighborhoods and connecting with the community.

Police will also be handing out sticker badges and St. Louis Cardinals baseball safety cards, Chief Johnson said.
