Authorities have charged a Chesterfield man in connection with a Monday bank robbery in Creve Coeur and an additional robbery count at a Creve Coeur Walgreens.

Police confirm John Barbera was apprehended in the Walgreens parking lot at Olive and Graeser while trying to get away as a passenger in a taxi cab. Police say Barbera implied he had a weapon when he robbed a First Bank location at Dierbergs on the 11400 block of Olive Blvd. Monday afternoon and then attempted a second robbery at the drug store. A police spokesman said there was "no indication the taxi driver knew a robbery would take place or in fact did take place."

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports he left the bank with $400.

Barbera is being held on a $150,000 cash-only bond. According to court records he faces a count of Fraudulently Attempting To Obtain Controlled Substance in Creve Coeur in April, and was charged last week with misdemeanor DWI and other traffic charges in Maryland Heights.
