Police Pursuit Ends With Crash Along Highway 40 Near Chesterfield

A police pursuit that began in Lake St. Louis, ended when the car rolled over along Highway 40 near Chesterfield.

Highway 40 was completely backed up in both directions Friday afternoon after a police pursuit that began in Lake St. Louis ended in Town and Country, just east of Chesterfield, when the suspect vehicle rolled over along the highway.

As you can see from the photos included in this article, numerous police agencies helped assist in the incident that happened around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

According to Town and Country Police Captain Gary Hoelzer, it began with a pursuit by Lake St. Louis police who were chasing a stolen car wanted in connection to organized retail thefts.

The two suspects fled east down Highway 40 and made their way into Town and Country, Hoelzer tells Patch.

They exited the highway at Mason Road and then attempted to get back on the interstate, which is when they rolled the car into the median between the interstate and the Mason Road exit.

Hoelzer said two people were taken into police custody, however one of them was take to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

Missouri State Highway Patrol is reportedly handling the crash investigation, but Town and Country, Frontenac, St. Louis County and other agencies responded to the scene. Police were in position along both sides of the highway Friday afternoon.
