Rash of Property Crimes Hits Chesterfield Neighborhoods

Chesterfield Police said it is typical to see an increase in such crimes during the summer months.

As summer begins to heat up, the Chesterfield Police Department is reporting a rash of property crimes.

Four instances, ranging from graffiti tags to damaged landscape lighting, have occurred since June 19. In each case, police said the suspect behind the crime was unknown.

  • Between July 6 and July 9, graffiti was spray painted underneath a subdivision bridge near Bridgeway Drive and Wildhorse Parkway Drive.
  • Between July 5-6, landscape lighting at the entrance to a subdivision near Olive Bulevard and Stablestone Drive was damaged.
  • Between June 28-29, a mailbox on the 14000 block of Summer Blossom Lane was damaged.
  • Between June 19-20, graffiti was spray painted on a garage in the 200 block of Valley View Drive.

Chesterfield Police Criminal Intelligence Analyst Michael Ryffel said statistically, it’s not abnormal to see an increase in property crimes during this time of year.

It’s possible that the seasonal rise could be related to the fact more people are outside and teenagers are often at home with nothing to do, but Ryffel said it’s hard to know for sure.

He recommended that residents help protect themselves and their neighborhoods against such crimes by remaining vigilant.
