A woman who tried to steal a purse from the Dillards Department store at Chesterfield Mall is also facing charges for resisting arrest after she tried to fight off an off-duty police officer.
Police did not release the name of the suspect but described her as a 43-year-old female and said that on July 14 she cut the security tags off of a purse in an attempt to lift it from the department store.
An off-duty police officer, who is not a member of the Chesterfield Police Department, spotted the woman and when he tried to apprehend her, she started fighting back.
She put up enough resistance that the officer had to "take her to the ground," police said.
