Update: Traffic Moving Again on Westbound Highway 40

An accident that occurred earlier this morning has been cleared enough to allow traffic through, though authorities warn it will still be slow going.

Update 12:39 p.m.: The Chesterfield Police Department is reporting that the westbound lanes of Highway 40 at the Boone Bridge are open once again after an accident involving two semis shut them down earlier.

Original story: The westbound lanes of Highway 40/I-64 near the Boone Bridge are currently blocked due to a traffic accident involving several vehicles.

Chesterfield Police Capt. Steve Lewis said traffic has begun to back up considerably and advised drivers via Twitter to look for altenate routes. Emergency crews are working to clear the scene, Lewis said, but there are no estimates for when traffic will be able to get through again.
