Baxter Road Down to One Lane Thursday, Friday Night

It's expected to be the last step in the major St. Louis County road project impacting Chesterfield residents.

Baxter Road from Clayton Road to Isle Ridge will go down to one lane for two nights starting Thursday as crews put down the final layer of asphalt for the $5.2 million project.

The lane closures will run from 6:30 p.m.-4 a.m. Thursday and Friday, according to St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic Public Information Officer David Wrone. Wrone said it marks "the last major thing before the project is complete."

The major overhaul of the nearly 1-mile stretch of Baxter will add a center turning lane, which Wrone said will be vital in helping relieve the traffic backup that can occur in the area. New concrete curbing has been added as well.

The road had previously been closed entirely for the removal and replacement of a box culvert bridge.
