Campaigning Begins for Chesterfield Mayor Race

Today's the deadline for candidates to file, but one of the councilman seeking to be the next mayor is already publishing campaign materials.

Today marks the last date for candidates in the city’s spring elections to file, and the race for the next mayor of Chesterfield is taking shape.

As of Jan. 14, councilmen Bob Nation and Matt Segal were set to square off for the spot, which will be vacant after current Mayor Bruce Geiger announced he would not seek re-election for a second term.

Segal has already started to release promotional campaign materials, publishing a picture on his Facebook page last week showing a preview of “Segal for Mayor” doorknockers. The yellow-and-white flyer contains a picture of Segal and his family with several bullet points summarizing his campaign.

Geiger has already announced his endorsement of Segal and the candidate has picked up nods from former Chesterfield Mayor John Nations along with that of several, unspecified current council members, according to the flyer.

Nation told Patch he is still developing his campaign material and will begin campaigning in earnest when the filing period is over.

With the election set for April 2 and still several months away, it’s uncertain how many resources the two candidates will pour into their campaigns. Segal has gone live with an official campaign website and Nation said he is unsure if he will establish an official online presence.

Check back with Patch tomorrow for a finalized slate of candidates for all upcoming municipal elections.
