Claire McCaskill Off The Campaign Trail Because Of Critically Ill Mother

Campaign confirms the Missouri Senator has called off campaign events for the remainder of the week.

A campaign spokeswoman confirmed late Tuesday afternoon to Patch that Missouri U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill is off the campaign trail for the rest of the week as her family rallies around her ailing mother, Betty Anne, 84.

Earlier, the campaign told the Associated Press that "McCaskill and her siblings plan to be with their mother around-the-clock at the hospital and requested prayers and privacy," at a St. Louis hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

Her Republican opponent, U.S. Representative Todd Akin, tweeted a link to the AP story along with words of support. "Our thoughts & prayers are with @clairecmc and her mother," the message said.

I wonder if that is really true or is she preparing for her court next week where her and her husband is being sued for sexual harassment? Which none of our local media is talking about
Mr. Completely October 24, 2012 at 10:11 AM
After reading your post I'm wondering who read the article to you and if you are actually able to vote.
Scott Simon October 24, 2012 at 11:36 AM
Seeunmo, that's a pinheaded comment. Claire, be well and hope your mother recovers the same quickly.
Al Mount October 24, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Prayers & best wishes to Betty Anne. Hopefully Mr. Akin will arrange it so that Claire has ample time to spend with her.

Seeunmo, I do believe you have something, and I AM able to vote. Hey folks! Search the internet for "McCaskill scandals"....and how the media is now being called out on NOT reporting them...befor the searches are tweeked.

Will there be anything on the Patch about local politiians? Lembke vs Sifton or Brown vs Englund?
Nancy in Florissant October 24, 2012 at 02:37 PM
I can't believe anyone would like about their mother being gravely ill. Besides it would be too easy to check out the truth.
Olive U October 24, 2012 at 03:04 PM
Mothers are so precious. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Devon Seddon October 24, 2012 at 03:26 PM
I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I can't see myself voting for Claire, but I will pray for her & her mother.
Becca Christensen October 24, 2012 at 10:58 PM
Heidi C - You are obviously not familiar with how internet searches actually work. Search results (besides the paid results that are clearly demarcated) are determined by a system of computer algorithms that take into account keyword content and a number of other factors. There is no conspiracy to "tweek" search results because there is no direct human involvement in search results.
