Appointed Councilman Looks for His Own Win April 3

Mayor's appointee has his campaign finances in order, recent records show.

In the race for Chesterfield's Ward 2 city council seat, incumbent Elliot Grissom, 65, is campaigning on his experience that "makes the difference."

Documents show Grissom voted every year in a municipal election, since registering at the Chesterfield address in October 2004. Grissom lives in Chesterfield Pointe villas.

Grissom is a self-employed financial business consultant who knew current Chesterfield Mayor Bruce Geiger before they both retired from Monsanto Company. The mayor appointed Grissom to fill the Ward 2 seat on the council a year ago.

Grissom said he spent 30 years with Monsanto/Solutia.

Finance documents show Grissom's campaign taking in $3,585.27 and spending $3,371.75 in the most recent report.

Many of the donations to the campaign appeared to come from neighbors

Some 40 donations ranged in amounts from $20 to $100, aside from in-kind donations by Grissom himself. All but several donors were described as "retired."

Documents show Grissom's campaign spent $1,000 on door hangers, $1,583 on mailers, and another $598 on yard signs.

His wife Rosemary Grissom shows a donation of $50. She is a retired elementary school teacher in the Parkway District, after 25 years, the candidate said. They have an adult son.

Elliot Grissom was on Chesterfield's Planning Commission for four years, and served one of those as president.

Grissom said he served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves.

His campaign literature said he wants to continue the development and maintenance of:

  • city park programs, 
  • bike/walking paths, 
  • amphitheater and 
  • Valley athletic fields.

His campaign said he wants to

  • advocate for art and cultural projects
  • encourage new planned and controlled development
  • listen to residents and subdivision trustees
  • provide exceptional city services
  • low taxes.
