Council Members File to be Next Mayor of Chesterfield

Two sitting Chesterfield City Council members will compete for the office, which will be up for election in April.

Updated 9:56 a.m. to reflect announcement by Mayor Bruce Geiger that he would not seek re-election.

The Chesterfield Mayor's race this spring will involve some inter-council competition after two sitting city council members filed to run for the office this week.

Ward I Councilman Matt Segal and Ward IV Councilman Bob Nation are both seeking a four-year term as mayor. The office is currently held by Bruce Geiger, a former councilman whose tenure expries in April following his election to serve a two-year term after former Mayor John Nations stepped down in 2010.

By seeking the Mayor's office, Segal and Nation are opening the way for new faces on the Chesterfield City Council. Their seats are each up for re-election, so if they fail in their bids to become mayor, they will be out of city politics entirely.

Geiger announced Thursday that he would not be seeking a second term in office.
