Four Incumbents First In Line for Chesterfield Council Race

First day to file to run brings four of eight to City Hall 8 a.m.

Did you know that opens up at midnight on the first day of the month-long candidate filing period, and candidates sleep over at city hall, in order to be first in line to file for the council race?

It's true, city officials said. Ballot order is determined by date and time of filing. Earlier is considered better, based on voting habits.

Incumbents Elliot Grissom and Barry Flachsbart reportedly dozed in the City Hall council chambers overnight, in order to top the ballot.

Grissom from Ward 2 was first in line, Flaschsbart from Ward 1 was second.

Elections are April 3 and the city's four council incumbents filed one right after the next at City Hall, beginning at 8 a.m, according to City Clerk Judy Naggiar.

Ward 3 incumbent Mike Casey was third to file Tuesday morning, Naggiar said.

Ward 4 incumbent Connie Fults filed.

The deadline to enter the race for City Council is January 17 by 5 p.m. The council is made up of two members from each of Chesterfield's four wards, for a total of eight.
