MoDOT Plan Calls for Traffic-Relieving Improvements for Route 141

Three separate projects are listed as part of the department's Statewide Transportation Improvement Program for 2014-2018.

Frustrated by traffic jams during rush hour as you try to travel past Highway 40/I-6 on Route 141? The Missouri Department of Transportation is hoping to add improvements over the next several years that might alleviate some of the issues.

The projects are part of the department’s $700 million Statewide Transportation Improvement Pogram (STIP) for 2014-2018, a draft of which is available online.

West Newsmagazine recently reported on the details of the program, which involve three initiatives relative to Route 141.

They include building a flyover ramp from southbound Route 141 to eastbound I-44, adding a dual left turn lanes in the eastbound and westbound directions at the I-64 intersection, and putting in auxiliary lanes and turn lanes from Highway 40/I-64 to St. Luke’s Hospital Drive.

The article state that work on the flyover ramp is scheduled to start in 2016 with the lane additions in both directions set for spring 2014.

MoDOT is collecting comment on the STIP through May 31. Following the public review period, the comments will be presented to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.

The commission will review the comments and the final transportation program before considering it for approval at its July 10 meeting in Rolla.

Help MoDOT Stay “On the Move”

MoDOT is also engaged in a long-term planning effort called "On the Move." The department is working through the summer to gather direction and insight from Missourians on major transportation issues and priorities.

Where the draft STIP represents specific obligations for transportation over a five-year period, On the Move will identify and prioritize transportation needs and solutions for the next 20 years.
