Parkway Schools: Newcomer Beats Both Incumbents

Appelbaum upsets the cart—for a big win.

Ballwin resident Kim Appelbaum, a challenger to two incumbents in the Parkway School District Board of Education race, beat not one to get a seat, but both incumbents.

Chesterfield resident Beth Feldman retained a seat on the Board, losing to Appelbaum by only 31 votes. Patch left a phone message for Feldman, for a comment.

Voters chose two winners from three candidates in Tuesday's election.

Longtime incumbent Helen Casteel lost by over 1,200 votes. Casteel's listed phone number was on FAX mode when Patch called for comment.

Patch left a message with Appelbaum's home phone for a comment on the win.

KIM APPELBAUM . . . . . . . . . 6,073    35.55 percent

BETH FELDMAN . . . . . . . . .  6,042    35.37 percent

HELEN CASTEEL . . . . . . . . . 4,837    28.31 percent

WRITE-IN. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .131        .77 percent

Both Casteel and Appelbaum filed to vote on the last day possible. Feldman filed on the first day.

Casteel was non-committal early in the filing period about whether she would run for another term on the school board, saying she must consult with family and take other things into consideration. Both her grown sons, who went through the Parkway school district, are in show business out of state.

These are unofficial results with all of the precincts counted.
