Schoettler Road Up for Fixes Potentially

Busy Chesterfield road considered for a $25,000 study by the city.

Chesterfield's city staff is looking into securing about $8,000 from Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to study potential "enhancements" to Schoettler Road, city officials said.

(Schoettler rhymes with lett-ler.)

Schoettler Road can be accessed via the first Chesterfield exit from Highway 40/64 westbound. Logan College of Chiropractic greatly expanded a Chesterfield campus with two entrances on Schoettler, likely upping traffic on the curvey road.

The road is two lanes with dropoffs alongside in portions, crosses a creek and is lined with the backs of houses and subdivision entrances. It virtually ends at Clayton Road, just blocks west Highway 141, and leads into Henry Street and down to Manchester Road.

The council agreed to pursue the study at Monday's City Council meeting.

The total study would cost $25,000. Funding is already part of the 2012 budget, according to officials.

The city took over the maintenance of Schoettler Road "a couple of years ago" according to the city's public works division.

"Although the pavement surface is in good condition, the road does not meet standards regarding roadway geometry, alignment, drainage, and sidewalks," officials said in a public document.

"The existing bridge over Creve Coeur Creek is in need of replacement within the next few years," it said.

The proposed study would include a look at straightening, drainage improvements, sidewalks, easements, and more.
