House Supports Bills to Foster Innovation and Economic Growth 

For Missouri to remain a land of economic opportunity for our children and grandchildren, we must encourage innovative businesses to develop within our borders. To help inventive start-ups thrive in Missouri, the House passed Representatives Noel Torpey (R-Independence) and Denny Hoskins’ (R- Warrensburg) HBs 1310 & 1236, also known as the Missouri Angel Investment Incentive Act.

This legislation offers a tax credit to individuals that provide seed money for emerging businesses engaged in developing or implementing innovative products and services. The intent of the bill is that these companies will create the high-quality jobs of the future that will help Missouri keep pace with technological advances and remain economically competitive. Increasing Treatment Options for Cancer Patients 

Missourians battling cancer deserve access to as many treatment options as possible to help them fight for their recovery. Unfortunately, many patients are unable to afford the oral chemotherapy medications prescribed by their doctors because of the cost disparity between intravenous (IV) and oral cancer treatments.

To rectify the unequal coverage of cancer medications in Missouri, the House passed Senate Bill 668, sponsored by Senator Ryan Silvey (R–Clay County). SB 668 would require insurance companies to charge equal co-pays for the IV and pill forms of a chemotherapy medication. Read more here.

Families are our state’s most precious resource and the fundamental building blocks of our communities, state, and nation. The Missouri House recently considered several pieces of legislation to strengthen families and protect the health of all their members, from parents to unborn children.

To provide women in our state with adequate information on their risk for breast cancer, I sponsored House Bill 1510, which was voted out of the House by an overwhelming vote of 146 to 6. Read more here.

Restoring the Governor's Cuts to Energy Assistance

During Missouri’s brutal summer and winter seasons, families throughout the state rely on LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) funds to help them pay their energy bills and maintain safe temperatures in their homes. To offset the Governor’s cuts to this program, the House Budget Committee is planning to add money to the supplemental budget for Utilicare, which is similar to LIHEAP but funded with state dollars. Nixon Releases Withheld Funds

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Representative Sue Allen (R-Town and Country) thanked Governor Jay Nixon last week for releasing $132 million in state funds that he had withheld since last July. The money was appropriated by the Missouri General Assembly to fund several pressing capital improvement projects. Read more here.
