Crop of Marquette Seniors Make Commended Scholars List

Ten of the 40 Rockwood School District high school seniors just named Commended Scholars in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program attend Marquette High School in Chesterfield.

Marquette High School is home to 10 seniors named Commended Scholars in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. The Rockwood School District had 40 such seniors named in all.

This year's recipients include:

Brennon Bastean, Marquette High School
Ryan Blake, Marquette High School
Emily Eggmann, Marquette High School
Logan Jardine, Marquette High School
Kiersten Kuc, Marquette High School
Daniel Mannion, Marquette High School
Dominick Rodriguez, Marquette High School
Kevin Shi, Marquette High School
Danielle Whitaker, Marquette High School
Karen Zhang, Marquette High School

Commended students represent some of the most academically talented students in the nation, according to a Rockwood announcement. Although these students will not continue in the competition for 2013 National Merit Scholarships, they placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

About 34,000 students across the nation are recognized as Commended Scholars.
