Feeling Punny? Marquette's Annual Pun Contest is Friday

Nearly 20 students are expected to entertain attendees with their humor during the oldest improvised pun contest of its kind in the country.

It's been said that puns are the lowest form of humor but some Rockwood students will be elevating it to an art this Friday.

Students at Marquette High School will compete in a Pun Contest on Friday, Feb. 22 at 3:30 p.m. in the theater. Nearly 20 students are expected to entertain attendees with their humor during the oldest improvised pun contest of its kind in the country.

“The contest started years ago with a group of students in some of the language arts and history classes. The students enjoyed puns and liked to add some humor to class by inserting them wherever and whenever they could,” said Mike Ebert, a teacher who helps coordinate the event. “Excitement grew and we decided to have a contest. It’s been that way ever since.”
