Five Parkway Teachers Obtain National Board Certification

Five Parkway School District teachers recently achieved National Board Certification -- the "gold standard" for teaching excellence.

The following information was supplied by the Parkway School District:

Five Parkway School District teachers recently achieved National Board Certification -- the "gold standard" for teaching excellence.  The teachers and their schools are: 

  • Michelle Dempsey, South High
  • Ellen Kubicek, Northeast Middle
  • Carol Lickenbrock Fujii, Northeast Middle
  • Casey Otemuyiwa, Northeast Middle
  • Jennifer Proffitt, Central High

National Board Certified Teachers are highly accomplished educators who meet high and rigorous standards.  Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have done so through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is recognized as the source for the highest standards and practices that lead to improved teaching, leading and learning. A voluntary assessment program designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers, and to embed ongoing school improvement in schools nationwide, National Board Certification is achieved through performance-based assessment and testing that takes one to three years to complete.
