It's a 3-Way Race For Two Seats in Parkway BOE

Last-minute filing by Tuesday means it's a race on April 3.

The Board of Education race in got a third candidate Tuesday, the last day to file, providing a challenger to the two incumbents on the seven-member board.

Kim Appelbaum joined the race against incumbents Beth Feldman and Helen Casteel.

The Parkway board of education decides how to spend some $200 million a year in tax dollars on Chesterfield-based public schools, grades K - 12.

District officials said the challenger is not related to , a current Parkway Board of Education director.

Kim Appelbaum is a Ballwin resident and Maritz IT Contract Manager, with two children in and High schools.

Without a challenge to the two incumbents, the board may have opted to skip the election process, and saved thousands of dollars in paying staff, pollworkers, and other costs.

Incumbent Feldman, is currently board vice president. She was first elected in 2009, after a one-year appointment to complete someone else's term. She is a Chesterfield resident.

Elected terms are three years.

Incumbent Casteel was first elected in 2006. She lives in the 63146 zip code of St. Louis County.
