One Candidate In the Race; Two School Board Openings

Board of Education Vice-President Beth Feldman filed Tuesday in the Parkway School District race for re-election on April 3, for a 3-year term.

Feldman was the first to register on first day of the filing period. January 17 at 5 p.m. is the last day to register to get on the ballot.

Feldman's earliest filing time Tuesday at 8:01 a.m., will give her top billing on the ballot. Observers said Feldman was in the district parking lot not long after midnight, in order to be first in line.

Feldman said earlier this year she wanted to stay on the school board. The Chesterfield resident has been on the job since her appointment in 2008, and was then re-elected the following year to a 3-year term.

Board Director Helen Casteel denied last week making any decision yet on whether she would run in the April 3 election to keep her seat. there were many factors to examine, and to talk with her family, before making a public statement. Casteel has served two terms (six years.)

Parkway is a Chesterfield-based school district but also takes in students from Ballwin, Town and Country, Creve Coeur, Maryland Heights, and some neighboring unincorporated areas.

The Board of Education has seven members with varying election years, in theory to provide continuity of leadership.

Parkway Board of Education candidates must meet the following qualifications to serve:

• Be a U.S. citizen
• At least 24 years old
• Be a resident taxpayer of the Parkway School District
• Have or will have resided in Missouri for one year prior to the April 3, 2012 election

Applicants should also provide a biography of 200 words or less and a recent photo at the time of filing. This information will be released to media and used in Parkway publications.

Candidates must file in person at the , located at 455 N. Woods Mill Rd. in Chesterfield. Filing can be done at that location from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Filing hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m on Jan 17, the last day of filing.
