Earlier in the school year, the new Parkway School District Superintendent Keith Marty hosted a workshop on how to run for school board, but few showed up.

Challenger Kim Appelbaum said she is not related to current board member Tom Appelbaum—the man who started the "hero" parade for returning Iraq War veterans in St. Louis.
