Overcrowding Forces Parkway Vote Wednesday To Re-Draw School Boundaries

Board of Education is scheduled Wednesday to take action on proposed boundary adjustments that would impact students primarily in the northern reaches of the Chesterfield-based district.

The changes come as the district struggles with overcrowding, particularly at the elementary school level in the north side of the district.

Administrators gathered that would be impacted.

In documents prepared for Wednesday's meeting, a district report said "the most frequent request and appeal was for administrators to consider providing transportation for students who wished to continue to attend and through the special assignment process.

Another concern raised by participants was the need for the District to clarify that current middle and high school students would be able to complete their academic careers in the North attendance area."

Under the recommendations to be considered Wednesday:

• Parkway Schools would provide transportation to special assignment students in grades 7-12 for at least 3 years.

• Students under "special assignment" at Parkway Northeast Middle School or Parkway North High School would be able to remain there.

• Craig, Ross, River Bend and McKelvey elementary schools would not take addditional voluntary student transfers.

If approved, the plan would be in place in time for the next academic school year.
