Monday, the U.S. Attorney's Office issued the following information in a news release.

According to court documents, Brent Woody was a local basketball coach who engaged in a sexual relationship with a minor female student. When she was fifteen years old, Woody took her to his parent's residence in Illinois with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Woody, 29, Creve Coeur, MO, pled guilty last October to one felony count of transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and appeared today for sentencing before United States District Judge Jean C. Hamilton.

According to a letter previously sent out to parents from Parkway Central Principal Tim Gannon, Woody was an employee at the school at the time of the incident. The letter also states that Woody worked as Central High's ninth grade girls basketball coach and as an assistant track coach from 2008 to 2010. He also filled in as a substitute teacher.

The district's website also states that Woody underwent two background checks that revealed no previous misconduct. The district's site states background checkes are conducted on all new employees.
