Parkway Central Football Rolls Over Rockwood Summit

The teams played Thursday under the lights, instead of Friday, since Yom Kippur starts Friday at sundown.

Parkway Central High School varsity football beat Rockwood Summit 28-9 Thursday night under the lights at Parkway Central's stadium in Chesterfield.

The Colts led 7-0 at halftime after a second quarter goal.

The teams seemed pretty evenly matched, with the Colts barely moving the ball over the line for a touchdown in a big pile up. Spectators didn't know it was a score until the referees signalled.

Quarterback Cole Gorman got the Colts on the scoreboard.

Colts got the kick and it was 7-0 just as the second quarter began. The Colts scored three more times in the second half.

Brandon Sheperd made a 99-yard kickoff return in the first play of the third quarter that gave the Colts a 14-0 lead. Then Parkway's Alan Gasanli scored from 14 yards out, and gave Central a 21-0 advantage. Andre Booker scored in the last quarter on a 30-yard pass from Gorman.

Summit scored in the second half with Ben Tesson kicking a 32-yard field goal. Then senior Joe Schenk caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Karst.

PCH is 6-1, losing only to Kirkwood. Summit is 4-2.

Parkway's marching band and pom team stepped out to put on the halftime show.

The stands were fairly full, despite the Thursday schedule.

The varsity football team typically plays on Friday nights. However, Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement begins Friday at sundown.
