Parkway Retirees Give Out $4,000 in Scholarships

Four students planning to pursue a degree in education each received $1,000 from the Joyce Srenco Memorial Fund.

A memorial fund in honor of a first grade teacher from Parkway is continuing its mission of fostering a new generation of teachers after handing out $4,000 in scholarships to four students from the district who are planning to purse degree in education

The scholarships from the Joyce Srenco Memorial Fund were presented by the Parkway School District Retirees Association at their annual award luncheon to Parkway Central student Kathleen McCaffrey and Parkway South students Elizabeth Berendzen, Elisa Erehart and Alexa Zepp.

McCaffrey will be attending Missouri State University this fall, Berendzen will go to Truman State, Erehart is headed for Taylor University in Indiana and Zepp is enrolled at the University of Kansas.

Joyce Srenco taught for more than 30 years in Parkway as a first-grade teacher and was the founder of the gifted program. Joyce’s three daughters -- Joanne Minnihan, Elise Silverstein, who attended the luncheon, and Pam Wootton -- established the memorial fund seven years ago to honor their mother’s memory and dedication to the teaching profession.
