Parkway School Students Observed 9/11 with Moment of Silence

Also, a brief statement read over the intercom accompanied the silence.

All Parkway District schools participated in a moment of silence Friday in remembrance of the 9/11 tragedy following terrorists attacks on the U.S. a decade ago.

Disrict Superintendent Keith Marty had asked for a pause to honor the memory of those whose lives were lost, and those whose lives have been forever changed.

Marty asked that the remembrance take place Friday between 8:46 and 10:03 a.m. since it marks the times when terrorists crashed a first airplane, American Airlines Flight 11, into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York, and when the final plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a Pennsylvania field after passengers foiled terrorists' hijacking plans.

β€œNearly ten years ago, our nation experienced one of its most difficult days.

Today, we pause from our daily routines to reflect upon the lives lost and the lives forever changed by the tragic events that unfolded the morning of September 11, 2001.

We also pause to contemplate the resiliency of our citizens and our remarkable ability of working together in the face of tragedy.

Please join with me as we honor these memories in a Moment of Silence.”
