Parkway Students Show a Lot of Merit

27 students, including many from Parkway Central and Parkway West, have been named as finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program

Nine students from Central High and seven students from West High are among 27 Parkway students that have been named as finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Parkway Central recipients include:

The top scoring entrants from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) are considered, as well as qualifications surrounding academics, SAT scores and recommendations. The Parkway release said about 8,300 National Merit scholarships totalling $3.2 million will be awarded next spring, while roughly 1.5 million high school juniors enter the competition upon taking the PSAT/NMSQT.

Approximately half of the Finalists will win earn the title of “Merit Scholar” and receiving either a National Merit $2,500 scholarship, corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship award or a college-sponsored Merit Scholarship award.
