Rockwood Principals Eager to Meet Students on First Day of Classes

Greg Mathison, Marquette principal, looks forward to the energy students bring. Meg Brooks, new principal at Chesterfield Elementary, is eager to meet her students and their families.

Students in the Rockwood School District are likely devouring the last scraps of summer vacation this week. The blazing hot days of July have given way to a taste of early autumn. Backpacks are standing at the ready. New clothes for school have been purchased. Sound familiar?

The first day of classes in Rockwood is Aug. 17.

Patch asked Rockwood school district principals in Chesterfield for their thoughts on the 2011-12 school year:

Our top priority is to ensure that we meet the educational needs for all students. We are focusing on continuing our tradition of excellence in all that we do and are trying to find more ways for our students and community to connect with .

We have an excellent staff that puts kids first. We are continuing our work with Professional Learning Communities for our teachers so they can focus on best practices. They meet regularly to analyze data in an effort to help them find better ways to increase student achievement.

I’m looking forward to the kids. Our halls have been silent for the past two months and I can't wait to hear the noise that 2200 students bring to our building. Their energy, drive, and laughter is contagious and I  look forward to seeing them soon.

This summer, my wife and I had our third little girl, Riley. I have enjoyed the time that I have spent with my family as we added this new little bundle of joy. I have also spent my summer reading books and playing a couple of rounds of golf.

Meg Brooks, Principal, Chesterfield Elementary School

Our focus this year is: Communication + Collaboration = Excellence: You Matter.

With the new administration on board, we will focus on creating a climate of collaboration where we spend time getting to know each other and the school community to provide a climate of excellence in our school.

We will start this year with “Getting to know each other: YOU MATTER” verbal exchange among the staff and our PTO Board on the first day the staff returns to school. A similar activity is planned for the students and parents to meet the new administration. We are excited to welcome everyone to a new school year and to meet our wonderful students.

For the upcoming school year, I look forward to learning the “ Way” and I look forward to serving this community, always working toward excellence in education for our students.

My summer was exciting as my passion is to travel and I traveled throughout Europe with my husband, learning and experiencing history and different cultures. If you ever visit my office, you will see pictures from the places I have visited. It is nice to know that our world is really not that big and that we are not unlike each other.
