STLCC-Meramec President Reportedly Resigns

STL Today reports that Campus President George Wasson resigned Monday afternoon, adding ties to mishandling campus communication following an attack of a student from Chesterfield.

St. Louis Community College-Meramec Campus President George Wasson turned in his resignation Monday afternoon, according to an STL Today report.

After apologizing last week for mishandling campus communication following a student attack on campus the week prior, STLCC Chancellor Myrtle Dorsey said in the report that safety has become a top concern. The campus drew criticism for failing to notify students until days after the attack.

As Patch previously reported, 19-year-old Blythe Grupe of Chesterfield, a freshman at STLCC-Meramec, said she was attacked in a women's restroom on campus April 18. Jevon Mallory, 18, has been charged with assault on campus for the attack.

"He was trying to kill me," Grupe was quoted as saying in a St. Louis Post-Dispatch article. "I just started screaming. I was on the floor asking him to please stop and let go because it hurt."

According to the Post, an instructor heard Grupe's screams, ran into the bathroom which stopped the alleged assault and then called campus police.

Mallory was reportedly arrested, but had since been released. Mallory was arrested again last week and charged.
