St. Louis Rams Football Camps Teach Lessons On And Off The Field

The St. Louis Rams are offering free high school football camps for area student-athletes this summer.

The first of several free high school football camps put on by the St. Louis Rams  wrapped up at Parkway Central High School Friday. Students who will be in grades 9-12 in the fall got lessons and instruction from team personnel, alumni and coaches, along with Elite Football Academy learned about ways to improve their craft on the field, but also important lessons about living off the field.

Be a leader. Have character. Don't penalize yourself.

Steve Miller, the Rams' Director of Security, addressed participants on the first night of activity and showed the audience a binder of more than 300 background investigations done on players eligible for the just-completed NFL Draft.

It featured research not just culled from athlete's college careers, but information and interviews with high school coaches, competing coaches and school administrators.

"I know more things about players that just got drafted than they know about themselves," he told the audience, which included several Division I prospects. "The decisions you make stay with you," he said.

A total of 12 athletes will be chosen from players who participate in this camp and camps at Festus High School (June 3 -6) , O’Fallon (IL) High School (June 10-13) and Gateway STEM High School (June 17-20) to represent the Rams at an NFL High School 7 on 7 tournament to played in Cleveland in July.
