Trey Knes Talks About College Football Recruiting

The Parkway Central linebacker is attracting interest from schools in the Big Ten, the MAC and elsewhere.

The St. Louis area will once again be a hotbed for Division I college football coaches looking for talent, and Parkway Central High School figures to be one of the places they'll be scouting.

Trey Knes, a linebacker for the Colts heading into his senior season, has scholarship offers from Illinois and Illinois State and picked up another from Miami of Ohio last week, just a few days after learning he was being evaluated by the coaching staff there.

Knes is one of several returning starters expected back for the Colts, along with Defensive End Jonathan Bonner, who is attracting interest from college programs.

Knes attended the St. Louis Rams High School camp held last week at Parkway Central and plans on being at the University of Missouri camp in Columbia Tuesday and another at the University of Iowa June 9. The camps provide opportunities to get college coaching and exposure to smaller college coaching staffs who are also present, in addition to the host schools.

The Mizzou camp has been held at De Smet Jesuit in recent years, but under Southeastern Conference rules, camps must now be held in the city where the school is located.

Knes credits his parents for helping stay humble through the recruiting process and focused on making the overall best decision when it comes to picking a college.

"I'm looking mainly for good academics. I can only play football for so long and also I want to be part of a winning program and just be able to help wherever I can," he said.
