A public "cooling off" station is open in 24 hours a day, after weather temperatures showed no signs of dipping below daytime highs of 100 degrees.
The air-conditioned environment provides relief for those feeling the stress of high and prolonged temperatures, for whatever reason.
During last year's heat wave, several older people from the St. Louis area were found dead from heat-related causes in living conditions without adequate cooling systems and/or fans.
"Effective immediately and until further notice, will be opening a cooling station in the multipurpose area of our Parks & Recreation Administration Facility located at 17891 North Outer 40 Road, Chesterfield 63005.
The facility will be available 24 hours, however, services provided are limited to use as a cooling station only.
No food, provisions, or bedding facilities are provided.
The facility is located on North Outer 40, 1.8 miles West of the Boone’s Crossing exit #17,
