Mural Project Has Us Weathering the Weather

Rain is necessary, but it tends to put a damper on outdoor events, like the upcoming painting of the levee mural.

As an arts organization, has a large focus on outdoor, or public, art.  Our biggest public art project to date is The Awakening that was installed in Chesterfield and unveiled in October of 2009.  This year, we're up to something new and different: a on a 700-foot flood wall (the Monarch-Chesterfield Levee)...doesn't sound very exciting, but it most definitely is!

Our Make Your Mark Leadership Team of eighth to twelveth graders from the St. Louis region has not only conceptualized and designed the mural, they have also managed the logistics, marketing and event planning for our community painting day (, by the way, in case I haven't mentioned that at least 20 times before).

Here's the problem...RAIN!  While I know that rain is necessary for the continued growth of all things, it tends to put a damper on outdoor events, especially when you are trying to get four dry days in a row in the middle of May in Chesterfield so you can prime a 700-foot concrete wall.

So, for now, I will do my little "dry" dance and hope for the best.  Either way, keep a watch on the wall and see what changes occur between now and June 4...or June 11 if we need a rain date.
