Missouri State Sen. Jane Cunningham (R-Chesterfield) was hospitalized Wednesday after saying she felt light-headed, as reported by The Associated Press. Cunningham left the statehouse during a debate on education. Kit Crancer, chief of staff, drove her to Saint Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City Wednesday. "I expect that she'll be fine," Crancer said via email late Wednesday. AP said Cunningham was undergoing tests Wednesday night. The state legislative session ends Friday. Cunningham did not file to run for re-election this November, after her home was drawn out of her district and left her with few good options to win a seat. Cunningham gained some notariety over her past term with what some believed was ill-conceived legislation, …
Neighbors of a Schnucks under construction at Clarkson and Kehrs Mill roads want to change city fence code limits on height.
A coalition of neighbors are seeking changes to Ballwin city code that would allow taller fencing around a Schnucks grocery store under construction next to residents' homes. The so-called "boutique grocery" is located on the Chesterfield border, along Clarkson Road. “Our home is our sanctuary," said Gerry Matlock, 67, who said he was designated to represent neighbors who live in the seven residential properties adjacent to the pending store. "We want to come home in the evenings, we want to do things with our families and with our kids, and with people who are retired. We want to have privacy, and we want to be separated from a commercial grocer.” At a Board of Aldermen meeting this week, Matlock said he was grateful the board agreed to …
Collection of lots for high-end outlet mall may be least of investment.
Chesterfield Valley's 55 acres designated for St. Louis Premium Outlets shopping center near the banks of the Missouri River at Highway 40/64 could be the least expensive part of the whole deal. The total 188 acres bought up for development are assessed at no more than $73,020, according to the developers' application for a special taxing district. By Chesterfield Patch calculations, dividing the total assessed value by total acreage would mean 55 acres for Premium Outlets at $21,362. Low? "It's agricultural right now because it's not developed, and so that's why it seems low," said Libbey Malberg-Tucker, the City of Chesterfield's assistant city administrator for community services & economic development. Valvoline, a car oil-change service, would be next door, according to city approvals, located at 17457 Chesterfield Airport Road…
Youth pose as students of L’École Culinaire to sell phony magazine subscriptions, Better Business Bureau says.
Better Business Bureau just released this warning: St. Louis area residents should be alert for a new door-to-door magazine sales scam involving young people posing as students of L’École Culinaire, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns. L’École Culinaire is a legitimate cooking school in St. Louis, but magazine sales door-to-door is a fraud. James Grover, campus director for L'École Culinaire, said the salespeople do not represent the school. “None of our students would be out doing that,” Grover said. A homeowner in the 5400 block of Pernod Avenue, in the city’s North Hampton neighborhood, said she was approached by a young man and woman last week who asked her to buy magazine subscriptions to be sent to servicemen and women overseas. …
Make way for goslings!
While some say they aren't keen on geese and their droppings underfoot, this apparent gaggle of geese—and several goslings—contentedly patroled the canal behind Chesterfield's Walmart late Tuesday afternoon, along Edison Avenue. Just for fun A gaggle is a collection of five or more geese, and there were at least five geese in this grouping but they just can't be seen all together in these photos. A gosling is a young goose.
Rush Limbaugh was inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians this week. An honor well deserved? Or a mistake on the part of Missouri lawmakers?
Rush Limbaugh, the controversial conservative commentator, was enshrined into the Hall of Famous Missourians this week, sparking controversy across the state and country on whether Limbaugh should be worth of such an honor. Limbaugh's name now sits amongst such famous Missourians as Mark Twain, Dred Scott, Jack Buck and Stan Musial. According to the St. Louis Beacon, Missouri House Speaker Steve Tilley gave reporters less than a half-hour’s notice of the ceremony. From the Beacon: Tilley’s decision to honor Limbaugh, a Cape Girardeau native, has sparked opposition from Democrats and progressives because of Limbaugh’s often strong words when he talks about people with whom he disagrees. Limbaugh’s bust will be placed in the Capitol’s Hall …

Chesterfield planning commission votes for second architectural review.
A contractor testifying that a proposed Mansard roof overhang was costing Club Dog owners more to build, and debate over a stone facade, sent the plan back to the Chesterfield's Architectural Review Board Monday night. The city's Planning Commission voted unanimously, 8-0, for the return. There was debate over the placement of decorative stone around the building. General contractor Pat McLean said he was filling in at the last minute for the Club Dog project architect, who couldn't make the city meeting. "Why does it have to have a Mansard, across the back, when none of the others in the area have it," McLean asked the commission. He said it cost more to build. A planning commissioner who was familiar with the Architectural Review Board …
