Veterans Share War Stories, What They Learned

Four veterans—two from World War II, two from the Vietnam War—reflect on their time in the service.

Patch is featuring the stories of several area veterans throughout the day to acknowledge Veterans Day. Here, four veterans share what they remember about their time in the service. Mick Schott, Air Force, World War II On Dec. 7, 1941, Mick Schott was working in the auto repair shop his father owned. As the two listened to news unfold out of Pearl Harbor his dad asked a simple question that was probably on the minds of many. What did the attack on Pearl Harbor mean? "I told him 'That means we're in a war,'" Schott said. In 1942, Schott enlisted in the Air Force.  He served in Italy, working to ensure planes, mainly B-24 Liberators, were repaired post missions and ready to go for the next. "I totally enjoyed it.
