Parkway Central Overpowers Webster With Big Second Half Flurry

Colts move to 10-1 and advance to state football quarterfinals, with 42-26 win over Statesmen, who are 9-2 with Turkey Day Game left in two weeks.

The story of Monday’s MSHSAA Class 5 sectional round football game between Webster Groves and Parkway Central could probably be best told as a tale of right and wrong. In the first half, visiting Webster Groves did virtually everything right, with big plays and big hits, and built for itself a 20-7 halftime lead. But in the second half, it was Parkway Central that could do no wrong, as it stormed back with 35 points in the final 24 minutes, to advance past sectionals and into the state quarterfinals, with a 42-26 win over the Statesmen. “We didn’t get much going in the first half, but we got a pretty good start to the second half,” Central coach Mark Goldenberg said. “And then they settled in. And once we got all that bad stuff behind us, …

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: Parkway Central Football Set to Whip Webster Groves In Playoffs

The Colts overpowered the Statemen in regular season play in October. Monday's winner advances to state quarterfinals on Saturday.

Playoffs Monday (tonight) include Parkway Central Colts (9-1) versus Webster Groves Statesmen (9-1) at PCH Stadium, in Chesterfield. These two top-ranked teams in St. Louis-area high school football will meet up in a showdown Monday for the second time this season for the chance to advance to this weekend’s state quarterfinals. Central won the first meeting, 34-13, in one of the Colts’ best performances of the season, with nearly 400 yards of total offense and holding then No. 2-ranked Webster to just one offensive touchdown. Senior running back Alan Gasanli, the Suburban South Conference’s second-leading rusher this season with 1,107 yards and 15 touchdowns, played fantastic for Central that night. He carried the ball 32 times against one…

Parkway Central Ruins Parkway North's Homecoming Fun With 26-7 Football Victory

Junior Alan Gasanli had 165 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Central to big win over district rival North.

PARKWAY NORTH HIGH SCHOOL – The Saturday morning Homecoming festivities celebrated everything wonderful about Parkway North High School and its wonderful 40 years of football history. But the afternoon Homecoming football game itself, belonged to the party-crashers from Parkway Central, who quieted the celebration-minded North fans early, and kept them that way for the rest of the day, with a 26-7 win over the beloved host Vikings. “This one sure feels good,” Central head coach Mark Goldenberg said. “We lost to those guys three years in a row. My seniors and I, my staff, we we’re just getting tired of it. So it feels good to finally get one on those guys.” Central’s last win over North came on October 26, 2007, when star running back …

Colts Rack Up Rushing Yards in Easy Win Over Longhorns

Parkway Central runs for 351 yards and its defense holds Parkway West to 186 yards of total offense.

On a night when Brandon Sheperd was held in check, the Parkway Central football team found offensive production from other sources. Logan Boyher scored on a 74-yard run and Devon Westley added a 35-yard rushing touchdown as Central built a 14-3 halftime lead en route to a 41-3 victory at Parkway West Friday night. “We’re happy to get out of here (with a win),” Central coach Mark Goldenberg said. “Our defense was real, real solid.” Central’s victory keeps the Colts unbeaten through five games and is the fourth consecutive loss for West, spoiling homecoming. Central running back Alan Gasanli added 162 yards on 23 carries, including a 44-yard touchdown run on the opening series of the second half. “That felt great,” said Gasanli, who added a …

Parkway Central Scores Early and Often to Outlast U. City

The Colts’ first-quarter stampede is too much to overcome for visiting U. City.

Since the start of preseason training camp, Parkway Central’s Brandon Sheperd has been one of the most lauded and talked about high school football players in the area. And for good reason. Sheperd is considered one of the top prep receivers in the nation, and he’s being recruited by nearly every top college program in the Midwest, who all hope that he’ll choose their school to play ball at next season. But on Friday night, a new star emerged for the Colts and stole the show (at least temporarily) from the superstar Sheperd. Central running back Alan Gasanli, who came into Friday’s contest with Suburban South Conference rival University City with just over 100 yards rushing and no touchdowns for the season, carried the ball 21 times for …
