Dave Spence campaign reconnoiters with Kinder post-win on election night
Missouri's Republican Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder took the nomination for a third term in a close primary race with Republican challenger State Sen. Brad Lager. Former Wentzville judge and St. Charles resident Mike Carter, 40, came in third. Kinder, 57, appeared briefly at 11:15pm at the Creve Coeur Drury Inn, saying he was "humbled" and "gratified by the support all over the state." "I look forward to uniting all parts of the Republican party behind this campaign for the next 91 days," Kinder said, looking ahead to the General Election. "(We) talked a mainstream conservative message of fighting for conservative issues—especially including my leading the fight on Obamacare, to stand up for the rights of Missourians to direct their own healthcare…

The announcement happened at about 9:20 p.m. Spence said Missourians are "ready to restore our state's prosperity" and touted his private-sector experience as former president of St. Louis-based Alpha Packaging. "Together, we will put our state back to work," Spence said. A St. Louis Post-Dispatch/KMOV Channel 4 poll published in late July indicated Spence had a commanding lead over opponents …
U.S. Rep. Todd Akin wins the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate. Businessman Dave Spence wins the GOP nomination for governor.
A state constitutional amendment touted as a "right to pray" provision has won by better than a four-to-one margin. Proponents say Amendment 2 protects the right of Missourians to pray in public. Opponents of the measure say those protections are already guaranteed in the Bill of Rights and the amendment would be a boon for lawyers, who will battle in court over unintended consequences spawned by the provision. Meanwhile in the race for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate, U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, R-Wildwood, has won. The Springfield News-Leader declared Akin the winner with about 80 percent of votes tallied. Akin faced down challengers Sarah Steelman, the former state treasurer, and businessman John Brunner has 29 percent. In the race for the …
