Rockwood's ROSE Nominees for Outstanding Service Announced

Here's the new list of Rockwood School District nominees up for the 15 final spots.

Excellence of character, performance, leadership and service to the Rockwood School District are attributes sought in nominees for the district's annual Rockwood Outstanding Service in Education (ROSE) awards. (For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) The ROSE Award is one of Rockwood’s highest honors, because it is presented to those who have made a difference in a child's life, in a Rockwood school, or in the Rockwood community. Nominees are teachers, parent volunteers, district employees, administrators and community supporters. MoDOT Receives Two State Recycling Awards

MoDOT made the announcement this week. One of the awards pertains to the Route 141 expansion project in West St. Louis County.

The Missouri Department of Transportation in St. Louis announced it recently received two awards for recycling. One of the awards is for the Route 141 expansion project that runs through Town and Country, Chesterfield, Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights. More details on how the department recycled during that road project are included in the following news release provided by MoDOT. The Missouri Department of Transportation in St. Louis has won two Missouri State Recycling Program awards. The department’s Route 141 project in Chesterfield won the team award for its “No Tree Wasted” plan. Chesterfieldian To Be Awarded for Dedication to Nonprofit

Arash Amini will be honored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for his commitment to the organization.

This week, Patch introduces you to Arash Amini, CEO of Amini's in Chesterfield. Amini will be presented with the Living and Giving Award at this year’s Oceans of Hope Dream Gala, hosted by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The gala will be May 7 at the Kemp Auto Museum. Amini's story begins with his father, who immigrated from Iran to the United States. He opened a store in Oklahoma City in 1975. “He didn't speak a word of English,” Amini said. “He worked seven days a week. Eventually, he got a store with five pool tables. Everything started with those five pool tables. Even when he had two stores, he was still going to school at night.” Amini wasn't originally going into the family game room business. His father …

Whiz Kid: 'Heart of a Mustang' Award Named for Marquette Football Player

Josh Hammack is this week's Patch Whiz Kid. His determination and dedication to the Marquette football team were honored with a new award.

This week’s Patch Whiz Kid is Josh Hammack, a senior at Marquette High School. Josh's hard work and team spirit was recognized this year at the school's football banquet when an award was named in his honor.  The newly created Heart of a Mustang Award will be given to the Marquette football player who best demonstrates stength of character. In its first year, it went to its namesake, who had no idea the honor was coming. “Shock. That’s what I felt when Coach Thornhill announced my name,” Josh said. Hammack received award at the school’s football banquet on Jan. 9. “It was pretty overwhelming.
