Rezoning Paves Way for Outlet Mall

Chesterfield city council votes 7-0 to allow the next step for a premier mall in Chesterfield Valley.

There were smiles on one side of the room at the Chesterfield City Council meeting Monday night. Would-be developers of a premiere outlet mall to be built on a 48.6-acre lot in Chesterfield Valley got the zoning decision they wanted. The council voted 7-0 in favor of rezoning the land from "non-urban with a flood plain overlay” to a “planned commercial district." An amendment to the rezoning allowed the land to be used as a bowling center, hospital, office/dental, professional and technical service facility, or a tackle and bait shop, in addition to the outlet malls. The amendment would have prohibited those business, but it failed 7-0. Another amendment to keep business hours to between 6 a.m. and midnight passed with little discussion. …
