Parkway to Allow Students to Use Personal Devices in Class

The district has completed a pilot program that lets students use their own smart phones, tablets or laptops in class.

The Parkway School District is moving from banning cell phone use in the classroom to embracing it with the successful completion of a pilot program that allowed students to bring their smart phones, tablets and laptops to school. Called the Campus Technology Access (CTA) plan, it was implemented at Central Middle School and North High School this semester and is now scheduled to go into use at all district secondary schools shortly after Thanksgiving. At this point, the focus is on simply allowing students to have access to a school-wide Internet network with later plans to add features such as cloud storage. Veterans To Join Central Middle School for Breakfast Fest Friday

Friday is Veterans Day, 11/11/2011.

Family veterans and current soldiers will join Central Middle School students Friday for breakfast and arts, Parkway School District officials announced this week. The special event, at which some 65 military personnel were expected, is part of Veterans Day celebrations. The traditional observance is Nov. 11—the day the World War I armistice was signed in the "war to end all wars." Breakfast begins at 8:45 a.m. and performances by the school choir, band, orchestra and drama crew start at 10 a.m. and lasts 40 minutes. The entire eighth grade will join the celebration.
