Greenwood, Hurt and DeGroot capture city council seats in Chesterfield.
Chesterfield Councilman Bob Nation will become the city’s next mayor, defeating fellow councilman Matt Segal in a race that was left wide open after current Mayor Bruce Geiger opted not to seek a second term. Nation's victory comes despite the fact that Segal heavily outspent his opponent. The campaign between the two men heated up as Election Day approached, with Nation going on the offensive. Nation targeted Segal’s ties to the commercial development community and criticized his support of a Community Improvement District (CID) for the future St. Louis Premium Outlet Mall. Segal called the first set of allegations a “smear campaign” and said financial contributions he received from business associated with commercial development did not …

The two candidates have each spent the bulk of their funds on sending out campaign mailings.
As the two men councilman vying to be the next Chesterfield Mayor head into a final day of campaigning, records show Matt Segal has outspent opponent Bob Nation by a margin of nearly 4-to-1. Segal, a Ward 1 councilman since 2009 and vice president at Berkadia, and Nation, a Ward 4 councilman since 2007 and retired airline captain and Army Reserves officer, launched their campaigns after current Mayor Bruce Geiger announced he would not seek a second term. According to campaign finance data filed March 25, Segal’s campaign committee spent $19,329, the bulk of which went toward $10,846 for mailings from Gralich Printing. The rest of the funds went toward PTO sponsorships, campaign signs, doorknockers and graphic design fees. Nation’s …

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: "It will be sad if the City of Chesterfield votes in favor of a man who was desperate enough to dispatch a mailer filled with lies and 'half-truths.'"
Editor's Note: This letter was submitted on March 29. In today's mail was a piece from Bob Nation which represented a true "mudslinging" covered in lies that most uninformed citizens may actually believe. The proof of Nation's major lie (in which he claims he voted against the CID) is contained in the City Council minutes. Fact: Bob Nation voted "yes" in the first reading (May 7, 2012) and was absent for the second reading of the CID (May 21, 2012). The "first reading" of the CID took place May 7, 2012 and Bob Nation voted in favor of it. The final vote was 7-1 (Councilman Barry Flachsbart voted "No" because he stated the 1 percent tax rate was too high). The "second reading" May 21, 2012 passed unanimously but the minutes note …

As his term draws to an end, outgoing Mayor Bruce Geiger looks back on the how far the city has come since forming in 1988.
In a column published in a recent edition of the city's official newsletter, the Chesterfield Citizen, outgoing Mayor Bruce Geiger reflected on Chesterfield's history and his time as an elected official. June 1, 1988. On that day, twenty five years ago, the City of Chesterfield became a reality. The St. Louis County Executive appointed the first Mayor and eight City Council members. There was no City Hall, no Police, Public Works or Parks & Recreation Department; no citizen committees, and just one employee, our City administrator, Mike Herring. Nor was there a mechanism in place to provide funds needed to sustain city operations. At the first City Council meeting, hundreds of ordinances, copied from St. Louis County, were read and …
Two candidates are running to fill the position, which was left vacant following Mayor Bruce Geiger's announcement that he would not seek a second term.
Because I care! I want to ensure that Chesterfield continues to be the wonderful community for YOU, and future generations, as it has been for me, a life-long resident. Having been elected to public service four year ago, I’ve learned from my peers and my mentors, Mayor Bruce Geiger and Former Mayor John Nations, what it takes to not just make Chesterfield a great City, but what it takes to makes us a First Class community. I’ve also learned by listening, observing and actively participating in every facet of City government. With my leadership and vision, collectively we will make Chesterfield THE place to Live, Work, and Play. What do you think the duties of the mayor are? The duties of Mayor are various, but can be divided into 3 …
Two candidates are running to fill the position, which was left vacant following Mayor Bruce Geiger's announcement that he would not seek a second term.
I seek this office in order to better serve and represent the best interests of our residents and businesses. While we live in a wonderful city which provides high levels of service and many forms of recreation, I believe we can do better when it comes to spending the taxpayer’s dollar. I support responsible development, but have been increasingly frustrated at decisions to spend money frivolously. One such example concerns the development of two outlet malls, partially at the taxpayers’ expense. I would also like to increase transparency in our municipal government and seek more constituent input. What do you think the duties of the mayor are? The duties of the Mayor are such that he/she does not vote unless there is a tie vote among …

I'm confused... His sons graduated from Lafayette High School, isn't that Wildwood? And if they graduated there, how old was he when they were born, because 33 years in Chesterfield, plus 3 sons at Lafayette just doesn't add up correctly. His youngest son would have graduated when Bob was 29, that means he was 11 when his youngest was born. Or, did they grow up with their mother and he was …   more ›
Today's the deadline for candidates to file, but one of the councilman seeking to be the next mayor is already publishing campaign materials.
Today marks the last date for candidates in the city’s spring elections to file, and the race for the next mayor of Chesterfield is taking shape. As of Jan. 14, councilmen Bob Nation and Matt Segal were set to square off for the spot, which will be vacant after current Mayor Bruce Geiger announced he would not seek re-election for a second term. Segal has already started to release promotional campaign materials, publishing a picture on his Facebook page last week showing a preview of “Segal for Mayor” doorknockers. The yellow-and-white flyer contains a picture of Segal and his family with several bullet points summarizing his campaign. Geiger has already announced his endorsement of Segal and the candidate has picked up nods from former …
