The announcement that there would be two outlet malls built in Chesterfield has left a lot of people scratching their heads, including some public officials, about whether there will be enough demand. It's also a question on the mind of investor's in the two competing companies, Taubman Centers (Taubman Prestige Outlets) and Simon Property Group (St. Louis Premium Outlets). Investment website Seeking Alpha recently published a story covering anaylst and investor conference calls held by the two companies. The outlet mall is one of two slated to open in Chesterfield next fall.
The walls are up at one of two Chesterfield outlet malls planned to open next fall, with a portion of the exterior shell of Taubman Prestige Outlets now visible. The outlet mall is aiming for an Aug. 2, 2013, opening and appears to be on track for the projected date. A press release from the company said foundation work has been completed for the entire structure located near the Boone's Crossing exit off of Highway 40. The erection of walls, electrical work and drainage channel installation are ongoing. The development is a partnership between Taubman Centers and OutletPartners LLC and is being built on a nearly 50-acre, open-air site and is projected to include more than 100 stores. Former marketing director for Saks Fifth Avenue at Plaza Frotenac Colleen O'Neil will be the general manager for Taubman Prestige Outlets Chesterfield.
After breaking ground in July, Taubman Prestige Outlets Chesterfield is now starting to build its management team for the 450,000-square-foot development. The St. Louis Business Journal reported Friday that Colleen O'Neil has accepted a position as the general manager for Taubman Prestige Outlets. O'Neil was formerly the marketing director for Saks Fifth Avenue at Plaza Frotenac and will start her new position Oct. 26. The mall's developer Simon Property Group Announced Thursday that it is now 75 percent committed.
