Drunk Driver Gets Jail, Probation For Fatal Crash

Patrick McCormick of Chesterfield, who struck and killed a teacher last year, was sentenced to one year in jail and five years probation.

Patrick McCormick, 55, of Chesterfield was sentenced to one year in St. Louis County Jail Friday by Associate Circuit Court Judge Thomas Prebil. McCormick pleaded guilty to driving into a teacher's car while he was drunk on August 26, 2011. The one-year jail sentence was for a second-degree assault charge. He was also initially given five years in prison on the manslaughter charge, but the sentence was suspended and he was placed on five years probation. McCormick also must seek alcohol counseling and wear an alcohol monitoring SCRAM bracelet for one year after his release from jail. The head-on crash critically injured Janet Esrock and her teen son Jonathan. Esrock, 50, died two weeks later on September 11. Friends of the Esrock family …

I should have added that I wasn't necessarily advocating the death penalty for the drunk driver killer, but 9 months and 13 days is a damn joke - it's a waste of MY tax dollars to pay for a system that produces such disgusting outcomes. Let me also add that Judge Prebil should lose a loved one and have to watch as the killer also gets a puny sentence - 9 months and 13 days sounds right to me!   more ›

Driver Out On Bail In Crash Killing MO Baptist U. Teen Clayton Pfeiffer

Next court date August 30, 9am, St. Louis County 21st Circuit Court, in Clayton.

A California man accused of manslaughter while on illegal drugs, in the car-crash death of Missouri Baptist University freshman Clayton Pfeiffer, 18, posted bond and awaits the next St. Louis County Circuit court date August 30. Dale Kawamura, 36, surrendered July 11 in California and posted bond July 12. Bail was reduced from $75,000 to $50,000 according to cast.net records, and he posted $2,500 cash. Chesterfield police said the St. Louis County Police Fugitive Section handled the out-of-state apprehension and arrest. Kawamura lives in Oakland, CA. Chesterfield Police Name Head-On Crash Victims; Wrong-Way Driver On Hwy. 40

A St. Peter's teen crashed twice, and died at Chesterfield Valley scene, in front of the city's Parks & Rec Administration offices.

An 18-year-old man is dead after he drove his car east into Chesterfield Valley from St. Charles on the wrong side of Highway 40/64, sideswiped a Greyhound Bus and then struck head-on another passenger car. Chesterfield police were to release the names of the victims Monday. UPDATE: Police named Nicholas J. Watson, 18, of St. Peters, as the fatality. The driver of the second car was injured, police said. She was hospitalized at Mercy. UPDATE: Police named Mary Radcliffe, 57, of O'Fallon as the driver of the second car. Her injuries were serious, but not thought to be life-threatening. The Greyhound driver and another bus passenger were injured in the first collision. Police just released the the identities of the people killed and injured in Sunday's wrong-way crash in Chesterfield Valley on Highway 40/64. Story to follow. Driver #2 (Bus Driver taken to Mercy) Andrew L J Williams, M/52, Kansas City, KS, 66104 Driver #3 (taken to Mercy) Mary Radcliffe, F/57, O'Fallon, MO 63368 Passenger #14 of the bus (taken to Mercy)   Jefferson Scott, 27 unknown address in MO.  Williams (bus driver) and Scott (bus passenger) were treated and released. Radcliffe is in stable condition remaining for treatment. Her injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

Police Say: Driver On Meth Charged in Clayton Pfeiffer Death

Chesterfield police say driver may be in home state of California.

A warrant for the arrest of a 36-year-old California man driving the car in the crash that killed Clayton Pfeiffer in Chesterfield on February 21, includes charges that methamphetamine was in his bloodstream, police said Thursday. Dale Kawamura, an Oakland CA resident, is believed to be in California, according to Chesterfield's Police Chief Ray Johnson. See photo. "Kawamura is not in custody at this time...St. Louis County Police Fugitive Section will be responsible for his apprehension and arrest," Johnson said in a press statement Thursday morning. California Driver Charged In Fatal Crash Involving Missouri Baptist Student

St. Louis County Court records show Dale Kawamura was charged with involuntary manslaughter and assault in connection with the Olive Boulevard car crash that killed Clayton Pfeiffer.

Patch confirmed that prosecutors have charged Dale Kawamura, 36, of Oakland, CA, in connection with the February 2012 crash on Olive Boulevard near Creve Coeur Mill Road which claimed the life of Missouri Baptist University freshman Clayton Pfeiffer. Kawamura has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and assault. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Chesterfield police said Kawamura was driving with meth in his bloodstream. Police said Kawamura's vehicle was heading eastbound on Olive and crossed over into oncoming traffic, striking Pfeiffer's vehicle and another. School Names Sports Field After Chesterfield Teacher Killed in Crash

Hockey field takes Janet Esrock's name, six months after the Chesterfield resident's death from a car crash on Wildhorse Creek Road.

A little more than six months after her death from injuries in an August car crash on Wildhorse Creek Road, Chesterfield resident Janet Esrock's life was memorialized at Whitfield School as friend, teacher, coach and supporter. The school dedicated its field hockey field in her memory Thursday morning. The school's board of directors authorized the move in November. Interim Head of School Ruth Greathouse told the crowd gathered outside on a beautiful spring morning that the school wanted to give seniors on the field hockey team Esrock coached a chance to play on the field bearing her name. No Charges In Fatal Crash, A Week After Prosecutor Sent Investigation

Chesterfield police said county attorney has the case.

No criminal charges have been filed in a Chesterfield car crash February 21 that killed Missouri Baptist University freshman Clayton Pfeiffer. Local authorities said a week ago that the police investigation had been sent to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's office. Neighbor Teen Heartsick Over Chesterfield Teacher's Untimely Death

A teen neighbor of Chesterfield teacher Janet Esrock played in the football game Esrock was returning home from the night of the car crash that ultimately took her life. The teen is a junior at St. Louis University High School and offensive lineman on the football team, Alec Abeln. He shared his story with his school's Prep News online, shortly after the untimely death of his "second mom."  Esrock, 50, and her son Jonathan Esrock, 16, were critically injured August 27 on Wildhorse Creek Road in Chesterfield, driving home from a Parkway North vs. SLUH football game when a car driven by Patrick McCormick struck their car head-on. Janet Esrock died two weeks later, never regaining consciousness. Her son is recovering from multiple injuries. …
