The Bears defeated the Lancers, 1-0, in sectional play. Lafayette and Eureka High School led the way in the recently announced all-…

Player of the Year Alison Magruder, a Parkway Central senior, was named to the team.
Kirkwood and Rockwood Summit high schools shared the Suburban South Conference championship in girls soccer this spring. The Falcons and Pioneers also led the way in the recently announced all-conference team with four selections each on the 18-player first team squad. All of Kirkwood's players were underclassmen. In fact, the vast majority of the 2011 teams will be back next year; only a handful of seniors named to the first team. Pioneers sophomore forward Maggie Schneider led the conference in scoring with 25 goals and nine assists. Junior Rachel Kibby (nine goals and seven assists) was named as a midfielder while freshman Kacey Jacobs and junior Kelli Moran were first-team defenders. Patch takes a look at the latest news and notes from the Suburban West.
Baseball There was a lot of talk in the preseason among Suburban West Conference baseball coaches on what kind of record it would take to win the league in 2011, especially with the new format which includes back-to-back games against all eight teams in the conference. "I thought maybe a 10-6 record might win it," Lindbergh High School coach Darin Scott said. Parkway South High School coach Adam Stahl concurred. "I thought five or six losses might win it," Stahl said. "I never expected it to go the way it did with the caliber of teams in this conference, which I think is the toughest in the entire state of Missouri." Parkway South got off to a great start in the league, and overall, and defended its title with a pair of wins last week …
Patch looks at the latest news from the Suburban South as the post season begins.
Baseball The Seckman High School baseball team capped off an undefeated record in the Suburban South Conference with a 16-6 victory over University City High School last Wednesday. The Jaguars had already clinched the league championship, but they added an exclamation point with an 11-run fifth inning. Collin Edwards, Chris Norman and Sam Tramel had three runs batted in each to pace the Jaguars, who finished 8-0 in the conference. Seckman was also the only team in the conference to finish the regular season with a winning overall record (14-11). Parkway West High School finished second in the conference. Despite the undefeated league mark, Seckman earned only a third seed in the Class 4 District 2 Tournament, which is hosted by Hillsboro. …

Parkway North's Amber Alexander won the high jump and triple jump. Chasity Jones of Webster Groves won the shot put and discus and Nicole Douglas of Parkway West won both hurdle events. Her teammate, Katherine Atwood, won the long jump. University City and Rockwood Summit each had two champions. U. The postseason begins in one sport and is on the horizon for other sports as May arrives.
It seems like only yesterday that the high school spring sports season began. But the postseason has begun in one sport and is on the horizon for many other sports. Area golf teams teed it up last week for district tournaments, with the top two teams and top 15 individuals from players outside the top two teams advancing to sectional play. Parkway South High School won the Class 4 District 2 Tournament which was held at Persimmon Woods Golf Club in Weldon Spring. The Patriots won with a score of 214, which was six strokes better than CBC, which also qualified for sectionals as a team. Parkway South's Kyle Weldon was the individual medalist, shooting a two-over par 73. Parkway South's Jack Darland was tied for second with a 77. Wesley …
Seckman remains atop the Suburban South standings with a 3-0 mark.
Suburban South Conference baseball teams have not had a lot of success this season when going out of conference. Entering the week, none of the league's teams had an overall winning record. But league-leader Seckman High School had a game to remember on Friday against St. Dominic. St. Dominic was undefeated in eight games against its league and was 11-2 overall. But the Crusaders were no match for the Jaguars last Friday, falling 22-0. The game featured a 16-run third inning for Seckman. "Sometimes you go out and see things you have never seen before in a baseball game," Seckman coach Brad Hagedorn said. "We had a couple of those things happen in the game against St. Dominic. Both teams were coming off losses earlier in the day and neither…

Parkway South is the conference team to watch. Wins in a pair of tight games over Lafayette kept the Patriots undefeated.
An unbeaten record at this point of the high school baseball season is indeed a rarity. But Parkway South won a pair of tight games over Lafayette last week and has yet to taste defeat in 2011. The Patriots were coming off of a sweep of Mehlville over the weekend. They scored 11 runs in the first inning in a 24-10 win on April 16. The Parkway South lead was actually cut to 11-9 after two innings, but then they scored six in both the fifth and sixth innings. Seven Parkway South players have multi-RBI games against Mehlville. Jake Brentz, John Calloway, James Calloway and Michael Patterson all drove in three. John Calloway scored five runs in the game. Things were a lot tighter in the sweep of Lafayette. John Calloway was 3-for-3 in an 8-6 …
