Arts & Education Council Grants Available for Chesterfield Area Teachers

Stemming from a large donation from Maritz, local teachers can apply for new grants ranging from $500 to $5,000. Deadline is Sept. 7—spread the creative word!

Arts and Education Council representatives will accept applications for the Maritz Arts and Education Fund for Teachers until Friday, Sept. 7. Applicants may visit council's website for more information. Grants will be made only for programs that take place from Oct. 15, 2012 to June 14, 2013 in the 16-county, bi-state St. Louis metropolitan region: Arts and Education Council managers announced Thursday they had received a $30,000 donation from Maritz to fund the third year of the highly successful and award-winning Maritz Arts and Education Fund for Teachers. The money will be used by A&E to provide grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 for education projects in individual schools and nonprofit education organizations during the 2012-13 …

Chesterfield-Based Baseball Club Wins $2500 Grant

The Missouri Chargers baseball club will use the money to fund a trip to a tournament in New York.

In a show of team spirit, the Chesterfield-based Missouri Chargers baseball club came in first nationwide in a competition for a $2500 grant. The club competed nationwide against other clubs of fewer than 100 players to be one of the seven teams chosen for the Fall 2010 Responsible Sports Community Grant. Liberty Mutual Insurance Company awarded the grant. Supporters logged on to the Responsible Sports Community Web site and took quizzes on parenting and coaching.  Each completed quiz equaled one vote. Through 6 years of watching the (now) 12U team, I have noticed the coaches consistently produce a winning record, no matter what group of players they have and what adverse conditions they face. This is due to teaching good baseball fundamentals, mental toughness, and good ethics/morals training. By focusing on those skills, the wins are a natural by-product.
