Parkway Board of Education Sees Changes

Wednesday reorganization brings new names and officers.

In its first post-election meeting, Parkway School District installed its Board of Education members and elected new officers. Newly-elected director Kim Appelbaum—no relation to existing school board member Tom Appelbaum—was sworn in Wednesday night, as was re-elected incumbent Beth Feldman. Feldman subsequentally was elected president of the board by her peers, after serving as vice president last school year. Director Chris Jacob was outgoing president of the board. Director Dee Mogerman was unanimously selected vice president. Incumbent Helen Casteel lost to Kim Appelbaum and Feldman in the April 3 election, where the contest was three candidates for two seats on the 7-member board. Casteel told the school board Wednesday that she was …

'Illegal Flier' Claim Ends School Board Term

Helen Casteel speaks to campaign attack, with stunning charge.

Casteel, who lost a run for a third 3-year term April 3, spoke during the public portion of the first school board meeting with newly-elected Kim Applebaum and re-elected incumbent Beth Feldman. She said someone "anonymous" put 22,000 fliers in voters' mailboxes that denigrated her as a candidate. What follows is the text of her speech Wednesday night, without editing on Chesterfield Patch's part. First, I want to say “Thank You” to our future service men and women, as well as those who have served in the past and those who are currently defending our country. I also…

So, if the flyer claimed both Feldman and Casteel should not be re-elected (presuming equality of claim on both), how can one reason that the flyer accounted for the difference in vote count between the two. Thus, Casteel's claim is illogical and irrational as this flyer would have a net zero impact between Casteel and Feldman, but could improve their rival's vote count (Applebaum's).   more ›
