The City of Chesterfield recently recognized Home Depot for their contributions to sustainability initiatives by giving them the Citizens Committee for the Environment’s Green Team Award. The all-volunteer committee organizes several environmentally friendly events throughout the year, such as Earth Day and American Recycles Day, and recognized the Home Depot in Chesterfield for their participation in these activities for the last several years during a city council meeting Feb. 20. The Home Deport collected CFL and fluorescent light bulbs and tool battery packs for recycling at these events, the most recent of which was so popular that the city organized a second day to accommodate a surge in turnout. Home Depot is taking applications now and reportedly plans to hire 975 seasonal workers in the St. Louis area.
The Home Depot announced Wednesday that it will fill more than 80,000 seasonal positions for spring which the company stated is its busiest selling season. "This year, The Home Depot is hiring ten thousand more spring associates than it did last year to support anticipated sales growth in the spring," the company stated in a news release on its website. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 975 seasonal workers will be hired in the St. Louis area. The Home Depot has numerous store locations in the St. Louis area, including Town and Country, Ballwin, Chesterfield, Sunset Hills, Mehlville, Brentwood, Florissant and St. Charles. Chesterfield residents who act quickly can take advantage of a limted supply of half-off smoke alarms being provided by the Monarch Fire Protection District. The deal is part of an agreement between the district and the Home Depot store in Chesterfield valley to supply 600 of the hard-wired alarms to residents living within the district for $10.90 each. The smoke alarms are being offered on a first-come, first-serve basis due to the limited and the district has said it will provide installation free of charge, although it needs to be pre-scheduled.
