A man is being charged with several crimes in a string of events that included him backing down an exit ramp back towards Interstate 64. A Chesterfield Police report gives the following account. Scott Trittschuh, 36, of Granite City, IL took the exit ramp from westbound Interstate 64 to Chesterfield Parkway on Tuesday when he stopped and began backing up at a high speed. He lost control and went through a fence. Trittschuh’s car then hit another vehicle, which rolled over injuring the driver. Trittschuh then drove away. A police officer found him in a parking lot at 13275 Olive Blvd. near Interstate 270 in Creve Coeur. Trittschuh smelled of alcohol and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.106 percent, according to the report. The officer also …

Motorists traveling Interstate 64 downtown this weekend should be aware of work zones in Missouri and Illinois. Two eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 between Jefferson Avenue and 11th Street will close for bridge painting, Friday at 7 p.m., and reopen Monday by 5 a.m. Additionally, the 11th Street ramp will close Friday at 7:30 p.m., to 9:30 p.m., only. The ramp will be open the remainder of the weekend. Missouri Department of Transportation will also have lane and ramp closures on eastbound I-64 downtown this weekend. The Illinois Department of Transportation will close I-64 from the I-55/70/64 split to IL Route 111 to remove bridges carrying 9th Street and 10th Street over I-64. All lanes will close at 9 p.m. Friday, and reopen by 5 a.m…

In the St. Louis region, 121 of the 180 bridges were cited.
A recent study ranked Missouri seventh worst in the United States for the overall condition of its bridges. But there’s no need to hold your breath while crossing bridges in Chesterfield or the St. Louis region, said Mark Croarkin, a bridge maintenance engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation. “They included two categories in that list, bridges that are structurally deficient and bridges that are functionally obsolete,” Croarkin said. “There’s not necessarily any problems with bridges that are functionally obsolete.” Two heavily used bridges in metro St. Louis area will undergo major repairs. “Those two bridges are getting to where they need constant maintenance,” Croarkin said. “I look at the Blanchette Bridge every three …

Chicken parts have been spilled on the roadway near Timberlake Manor Parkway.
UPDATE: (7:17 p.m.): Traffic cameras now show that eastbound Highway 40 is open. UPDATE (7 p.m.): Monarch Fire Protection District Fire Marshall Roger Herin said that the Monarch Fire Protection District crews have finished washing the chicken parts off of eastbound Highway 40 at Timberlake Manor Parkway. Now, absorbants are being put down to soak up the oil. The highway is expected to reopen at about 7:30 p.m., Herin said. Earlier story: Eastbound Highway 40 between Chesterfield Parkway and Timberlake Manor Parkway has been closed due to a spill.
